Creating a Custom Hardware Alarm

There are certain hardware alarms that are "non-maskable;" that is, the hardware alarms are always active and you are only permitted to
customize the name (user description). When you select one of these hardware alarm types, (from the Hardware alarm list), the
Immediate alarm notification check box and Nuisance limit box, (under Alarm Specification), appear dimmed and are unavailable
         for modification.
Some existing hardware alarms are customizable by (1) creating or modifying the user description (name), (2) changing the Nuisance limit,
and (3) enabling/disabling the alarm BUT you cannot change the actual hardware alarm's function (displayed in the "Default" column in the
Hardware alarm list). For your convenience, Mercury Instruments furnishes each Remote Unit type with two "Customer Alarm" alarms
that you can customize (including function). Note, however, that the hardware alarm function customization is accomplished on the actual
      Remote Unit hardware.

To create a custom Hardware Alarm:
  1. Open the Remote Unit Configuration application.
  2. In the Available Remote Units list, select the Remote Unit.
Use the Search Engine utility to find a particular Remote Unit or group of related Remote Units
  3. Click the Edit Icon.
The View Remote Unit dialog box appears.
  4. Click the Hardware Alarms tab.
  5. In the Hardware alarm list, select the hardware alarm you want to customize.
The default description (alarm function) for the selected alarm is displayed in the box under Alarm Specification.
  6. In the box under Available alarm user descriptions, enter your own custom description or select one from the list of available user descriptions located below the box.
  7. If you want to enable the alarm at the same time you add it, select the Immediate alarm notification check box.
  8. If you want to:
Save any occurrence of the alarm to the database (Alarm Data File), select the Save check box.
Log any occurrence of the alarm to your system logging device, select the Log check box.
A beep to sound on any occurrence of the alarm, select the Alert check box.
  9. In the Nuisance limit box, click the arrows and set the nuisance limit.
  10. Click the Apply button.
Your custom hardware alarm is now displayed in the Hardware alarm list.
